Early Life
Michelle Smallmon grew up in Belleville, Illinois, near St. Louis. Sports were an important part of her childhood, and her parents regularly took her to professional games.
She grew up watching the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues and learned how to keep score during baseball games. Smallmon has said her parents, Tony and Robin, helped develop her love of sports from a young age.

After graduating in 2008, Smallmon entered the media business during a difficult economic period. She eventually landed a part-time production assistant position at KSDK in St. Louis.
Her determination to work in sports led her to spend additional time helping the sports department. She later received an opportunity in sports radio and discovered that the format suited her abilities.
